WHAT WE DO TO
SERVE THE COMMUNITY

ShareOurSelves Thrift Shop is a community service of Vallejo Drive Church and is strongly supported by the Glendale Adventist Medical Center, especially by their chaplain’s office.  Diana Elias, has served a shop director for a number of years and has developed it into a superb local ministry.  The shop sells donated goods to support our Adventist Community Service programs, like our food and clothing voucher system as well as a regional distribution center for the LA Food Bank.  You can find furniture, household accessories, seasonal décor, clothing, books, CD’s and more.  Free fresh breads and pastry from a local bakery are also available throughout the week on a first come, first serve basis.

On the fourth Thursday of each month, SOS distributes frozen food, dairy products, canned goods and fresh produce as a regional distribution center of the LA Food Bank.

From the moment you walk in the store, you will notice that its staff passionately works to follow the example of Jesus.  Their commitment flows from two bible passages:

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.  Then the righteous will answer him, “Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?”  The King will reply, “I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” --Matthew 25.35-40

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” --John 13.33-36

Your tax-deductible donations
of goods and services make the ministry at SOS possible.  Thanks to the kindness of church members, hospital staff and community residents, SOS maintains a full inventory of gently used items.  You can bring your donations to the store during regular business hours or arrange for the store truck to pick up larger items at your home or business.  If you are planning an estate sale, we can arrange with you to receive your unsold items and give you a tax receipt.  And we accept automobiles that are in decent running condition.  Contact Diana for more information

SOS is always looking to build up its staff of dedicated volunteers to help in a number of ways: sorting donations, placing them throughout the shop and cashiering, just to name a few.  Contact Diana let her know how often you can help

On the first Sabbath of each month from September through May the Adult Sabbath School sponsors a singing band for patients at Glendale Adventist Medical Center.  The group meets at 3:00 pm in the lobby of the Rehabilitation Center and sings to a number of patients. The medical center provides a chaplain to meet us and take us to the patients.

For more information you may contact Elois Brooks at (818) 247-1497. All are welcome to participate and those who attend not only bring blessings to others but also receive a blessing.

On the third Thursday of each month volunteers serve their brothers and sisters who for various reasons have lost their livelihood and are currently homeless. This is a ministry that we offer in conjunction with the homeless feeding program of Union Station in Pasadena.

Those who have participated in the program, all agree that it is a wonderful experience to be able to serve in this little way by providing and making life a little bit better for the 60 -70 people who are at the mission on a given evening.  It is actually a lot of fun to work together as a human “conveyer belt” as we assemble the dinner plates and serve them to our guests.

If you would like to experience the joy of reaching out to people less fortunate than you, please contact Mrs. Laurie Johnson at 626-840-8099 for more information on how to join this ministry

Each summer, Vallejo Drive turns our campus over to the kids for an entire week!  Your kids will learn great songs, create fun and beautiful crafts, visit a petting zoo and interact with Bible characters come-to-life.  Every Christmas for the last 22 years, our church has supported the Angel Tree Organization by sponsoring 15 families with gifts purchased by our members.  Angel Tree is designed for children with a parent in prison.  Our members provide gifts for those children who may not be financially able to have a Christmas tree filled with presents.  We host a special program for the families to distribute the gifts or we personally deliver them.  If you would like to be involved in this ministry contact the church office
